Í marz-hefti Four Wheeler er lesandabréf, þar sem ritstjórar blaðsins eru beðnir um „óskalista“ sem tilgreini hvernig draumabíllinn þeirra eigi að vera. Ætla að leyfa mér að skrifa þennan lista hér á eftir, nenni ekki að þýða hann, enda er þetta 4×4 lingo alþjóðlegt og lang flestir skilja upptalninguna án þýðingar. Við verðum að hafa í huga að listinn er að sjálfsögðu miðaður við meðalaðstæður þeirra í USA og líklega sérstaklega í California og eitthvað sem má aka á vegum þar. En listinn er svona:
Lots of ground clearance
33-inch radials, Maybe even 35´s
Solid axles-Dana44-front and rear
Full floating hubs
Detroit locker in the rear
ARB in the front
Big ol´ U-joints
4:1 low range in the T-case
No traction control-lockers handle that!
Hooks front and rear
Dual batteries
Solid underbody skidplate protection
Plastic body panels
Solid bumpers with good jack points
Comfortable interior that is easy to clean
Great approach, breakover and departure angles
Body tucked up out of harms way
Filters-air and oil-easy to reach and change
Belts easy to reach and change
Air intake up high to avoid hydrolocking
Transfer case shifted by a lever, not a switch
Auto-disconnect antiroll bars-see Lexus KDSS
An engine with low-rpm grunt
Fullsize spare tire
Space for four, with room for cooler and gear
Full gauge package
Onboard air-see H2
Lots of interior storage-see Nissan Titan
Class-leading visibility from the drivers seat.
Maybe most important: Adoption of a philosophy that says light is good, heavy is not so good-which is why we don´t need axles any heavier than D44s
