A mechanic at Unicat in Germany suggested this to me, and I’ve done it several times. It works very well.
Buy one or preferably 2 (to have a spare) 20″ bicycle tubes. Lube it with straight dish detergent and place it inside the outer rim flange, outside the outer tire bead. Inflate just enough to make contact with the tire plus a bit more. Too much distorts the place where the filler goes into the tube.
Then put 3-6 psi into the tire or whatever it takes to push the bead out to the rim flange, but NOT TOO MUCH. Then pull the pre-lubricated, now squashed bike tube out. The tire should stay seated. If there’s too much air in the tire you will have difficulty getting the bike tube out.
It helps to try to position the bike tube so it’s halfway „rolled out“ up out of the flange, to make removal easier.
The inner bead doesn’t seem to be a problem even when the tire is upright mounted on the hub. Naturally it should be jacked up. CTIS works to fill the tire if you have it.
This technique avoids the dangerous use of explosive fuel-air mixtures. I’m not sure what explosions do to CTIS, but the shock wave can’t be good for it.Þessa aðferð fann ég á benzworld unimog forum
Hún er svolítið sniðug þessi slönguaðferð við að koma dekki á felgu, þetta er eitthvað sem vert er að prófa
